Mr. Leonard Wiser,

George L. Wiser, 86, of Hot Springs Village passed away on March 23, 2012 at a local hospital. George was born July 06, 1925 in Randolph, Wisconsin to George Sr. and Wynona (Herrick) Wiser. George served in the US Army Air Forces (now called US Air Force) from 1943 to 1946. Trained as Flight Engineer and Aerial Gunner in B-17 and B-24 heavy bombers. Based in the Southwest Pacific on Kwajalein, Saipan, and Guam, he flew combat missions in B-24's against Iwo Jima, Chi Chi Jima, and Truk. George's College education was fragmented by WWII (before, during, and after), as follows. University of Illinois; 1 year Mechanical Engineering (prior to military service). Creighton University; ½ year of General Science (during military service). Cal. Aero. Technical Institute; 2 ½ years of Aeronautical Engineering (after military service); awarded B.S. Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. In subsequent years, he took several courses in Management and advanced Engineering at USC, UCLA, and CSUN. He began work at Lockheed, in Burbank, California, where he held various engineering positions in the Flight Test and Structures Research Departments. He worked on the Electra, XF-90, F-94, U-2, XFV-1, and SR-71, and several other projects. After 8 years, George left Lockheed to join Sierracin. He spent the next 34 years at Sierracin Corporation, which designs, develops, and manufactures high-technology aircraft windshields, canopies, and other components. He served in various positions, including Chief Engineer, Vice President of Engineering, Vice President and General Manager, Vice President of Advanced Projects, and President and CEO. During this period, he contributed directly to the design of more than 100 new aircraft, many of them advanced, highly-classified projects. George also had the privilege of piloting several of these aircraft to test and evaluate the products. After retiring from Sierracin in 1990, George continued to serve them as a part-time consultant until 1994. George holds 4 U.S. Patents and 2 British Patents, all relating to aircraft design. George was an Associate Fellow in the Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and has held membership in the Institute of Aeronautical Sciences, the Society of Automotive Engineers, the American Helicopter Society, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Air Force Association, and the Mach Busters Club. George received the Herman R. Salmon Award form The Society of Experimental Test Pilots, in Sept. 1991. George enjoyed several hobbies: Photography, Flying, Sailing, Oil painting, Computers, Writing limericks, and Astronomy. He moved to the Village in 1997 and was a member of Village Bible Church. George leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Ina, as well as his daughter Nancy Reidy of Newbury Park, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Scott Wiser, and his grandson James Fox IV.
